Comparison Paper

There were not many similarities between the Summer of the Monkeys movie and the Summer of the Monkeys book.  Jay Berry, Daisy, and Rowdy had the same names.  Grandpa owned a shop like he did in the book.  That shop was what I imagined it would look like.  They did do the best scene in the book where the monkeys got drunk.  Daisy was crippled like in the book and she also had her crutch.  The Circus train crashed and the storm was very, very fierce.

There was definitely more differences than similarities between the Summer of the Monkeys book and movie.  There were only four monkeys and they were all chimpanzees.  The monkeys all had different names as well.  The monkeys all wore odd circus clothes which were not in the book.  Daisy found a fairy ring like in the book but she was the only one who made a wish.  In the book, Jay Berry uses the monkey money to fix  Daisy’s leg and still gets the pony and the gun like he wanted.  Bayliss Hatcher was also a character but died in the storm.  There  were also bullies who were trying to catch the monkeys.

The Summer of the Monkeys book was a very good book and definitely Wilson Rawls’ better book.  The book could've had a little more grandma in it, she could have been a good character.  The Movie was relatively good if you have never heard of the Summer of the Monkeys book.  If you have read it, the movie was not as good.  One of my biggest suggestions is that they should have made Jay Berry a little more kind.  They should not have killed Bayliss Hatcher in the movie.  They could have made him have a happier ending.  The bullies were not very smart in the movie.  They could have made them a scarier threat.  My biggest suggestion is that they should have gave Jay Berry the pony and the gun like in the book.
